About Hot by Thirty

  • Desperate not to spend another summer hiding out in fat and/or maternity clothes, I'm determined to drop thirty pounds of baby weight by my thirtieth birthday- July 18, 2009. How unfortunate, then, that I prefer to spend nap time in front of my television with a vat of ice cream. But I've lost these same thirty pounds twice before and I can do it again. I shall do this by steering clear of white flour and sugar and moving my stumpy legs as fast as they will go on our new treadmill. In front of the television, of course. I'd say it is what you do with weighing yourself everyday that makes it healthy or unhealthy. Plus, I've heard that it is the people who do weigh themselves everyday that are able to lose weight and keep it off.

I know they say not to weigh yourself every day, and I kind of understand it because water weight, hormones, etc. can cause your weight to fluctuate and be very upsetting, but it really works for me. It makes me not want to eat out because I can always see the effects on the scale the next day.

Anyway, one bad day might cause a temporary jump on the scale, but the nice thing about temporary weight gain like that is that it really is easy on, easy off. A day or two of eating healthy and working out and you'll be back to your lower weight.

One day won't undo your whole week, I promise! Actually, it's better to have one really bad day than a few little bad things every day. This is the advice I got from my brother (a personal trainer slash general health freak) anyway. He calls them "cheat days." It's worked well for me.
