About Hot by Thirty

  • Desperate not to spend another summer hiding out in fat and/or maternity clothes, I'm determined to drop thirty pounds of baby weight by my thirtieth birthday- July 18, 2009. How unfortunate, then, that I prefer to spend nap time in front of my television with a vat of ice cream. But I've lost these same thirty pounds twice before and I can do it again. I shall do this by steering clear of white flour and sugar and moving my stumpy legs as fast as they will go on our new treadmill. In front of the television, of course. Hmm, good post. I have no advice and although I don't solve world problems on my runs in my head I sure score a lot of championship winning goals and stuff. At least there's that. Maybe you could get the flu again before your birthday? Har.


I don't know. I kind of believe in a "set point" and it sounds like you've reached yours. If I reached mine and then tried really hard to lose another 7 pounds, I would totally gain it back as soon as I stopped trying so hard and then I would be really frustrated.

Not to rain on your parade! Because this is just me and obviously you and I are very different when it comes to our bodies and weight issues. If you do want to lose those 7 pounds, it sounds to me like you already know what you have to do. I think tracking every single thing you eat and every minute of exercise you get will help. And offering yourself some kind of exciting non-food reward when you get to your goal weight? Just a thought.


You've done so amazing already! I know if you decide that you want to, you can do it. (Of course, I think you've done great, so if you decide you don't want to, that's fine with me.)

When I was working out and such, I made a rule that if I didn't work out on one of my set days, I had to write down in my calendar why I didn't. Writing "didn't feel like it" always felt like cheating, so I'd usually just do it instead.


I plateaued at 150 (my pre-pregnancy weight) for like 3 months before I joined weight watchers to kick my butt into gear. Then I lost another 10 lbs! And then I quit counting points and I'm back up 3 lbs. But ummm, yeah. I know you can lose the last 7 lbs if you want to! Good luck!
