About Hot by Thirty

  • Desperate not to spend another summer hiding out in fat and/or maternity clothes, I'm determined to drop thirty pounds of baby weight by my thirtieth birthday- July 18, 2009. How unfortunate, then, that I prefer to spend nap time in front of my television with a vat of ice cream. But I've lost these same thirty pounds twice before and I can do it again. I shall do this by steering clear of white flour and sugar and moving my stumpy legs as fast as they will go on our new treadmill. In front of the television, of course. I will eat any and all junk food that I have in my house - I do that same thing you do with ice cream - but chocolate is the only food that if I don't have some around, I'll just have to go get some to quiet down my brain. I try to keep the chips away and only go out for ice cream, but we always have chocolate chips because otherwise it's just not pretty to be around me.
And cookie dough? Look out.
Also, I am trying to pretend that the bag of peppermint patties in my refrigerator isn't calling my name.
I'm wondering if the secret isn't to just focus in on one kind of bad for you think. If I exercised enough and didn't eat the nuts and the chips and the other junk, I think a few chocolate chips wouldn't do any harm. I just can't have ALL of it.

Maggie, I'm sorry! When I started gaining, I confirmed this with the internets and apparently there is water retention involved in building muscle and blah blah. But, the workouts are great and Jillian will literally whip your behind into shape. The BEST part of the workouts is that they are short and broken up into even shorter pieces. Perfect for ADD peeps, cause you can do anything for 1 minute, which is as long as any one thing lasts. I think you're going to like it, just ignore the scale a little in the beginning. I can't wait to read about your progress!

I just did my first 30 day shred. It totally made me sweat and it made my muscles cry for mercy in a way running doesn't. I am going to try for 30 days straight just to see...if I can get through it I will have deemed to have gotten my money's worth and will move on with my life. Truthfully I think I will have to do some mental gymnastics to keep doing it though as I could see myself getting bored.

As for eating all the food in the house, I have to say me too. We don't buy pepsi in 12 packs anymore b/c I'll drink it if it's here. Instead I make my husband stop at the store to get them one bottle at a time if he's interested. Sigh. The things we must do.

I got into a bad habit of buying regular soda. I can't stop drinking it if it's in the house.
And I cannot resist a cookie if my life depended on it.

30 Day Shred is on-demand on my TV. So if I can find a minute to myself to actually do it, I will tell you what I think. I'm scared. Jillian scares me.

In terms of individual foods, my biggest weakness is microwave popcorn. I eat that stuff all the time. We actually have 4 different kinds in the house right now. I try to keep around the 100 cal packs for snacking though. I also have a tendency to get into baked goods if they're around which can be a problem because I really enjoy baking. My biggest problem though is that I eat when I'm bored-- whatever is around.
