Resolutions
Predictions, Resolutions and Things To Mull Over for 2006.
A not-anywhere-near comprehensive list of things I intend to do, accomplish, see, learn or read in 2006.
Buy pants that fit.
Due to the earthshattering news that I kept one of last year's resolutions and lost actual weight, I have 2 pairs of pants that fit and only one of those pairs is suitable to wear to work. I've been assaulting the professional world with saggy-butted and droopy-waisted pants for about a month now and it's beginning to get a little ridiculous. I've prevented myself from buying new pants because 1. I will no doubt gain this weight back and 2. I've disillusioned myself into thinking I'll lose more. And you know what? Work-appropriate Ann Taylor pants are not cheap, people.
Transfer my domain name.
Last year Phillip bought me my very own domain name for Christmas, but for some reason (he cryptically explained) it was the "wrong kind" and my website wouldn't transfer over. I got another one this Christmas (thanks godaddy!) and guess what- I'm going to transfer it MYSELF. That's right, Internet. Watch out for mightymaggieDOTCOM.
Visit Hawaii.
I have never been to Hawaii. Ever. My BFF Malia, the girl who taught me the beauty of eating popcorn with chopsticks, the girl who agrees that a big strawberries and cream crepe at the Pike Place Market is the perfect way to kick off an eight-hour day of downtown shopping and the girl who assisted in buying out the entire Whole Foods flower section the day before my wedding- she LIVES in Hawaii. Isn't there something wrong with this? That poor Malia has visited me every year since she's moved back to Honolulu, but I have not gone to see her even once? The word for this is TRAVESTY and something must be done. So last night I told Phillip that we would be vacationing in Hawaii the week after Christmas 2006. (Because oh my God we could have used a vacation last week.) Let this be a resolution and a prediction.
Prediction: The entry way walls will still not be painted and the entry way floor will still not be tiled by December 31, 2006.
Books to read:
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, Teacher Man: A Memoir by Frank McCourt. (His anecdotes about teaching English were the absolute best part of 'Tis.)
Learn to make a pot roast.
It seems like one of those "wife" things I should learn. And it might make up for never ever ironing his shirts.
Learn to make websites. Like, for real.
Winter quarter officially started yesterday and I've already turned in my first assignment for my "web development basics" class, paid for with my boss's credit card. (Thank you, Boss!) Of course, the first assignment was a "tell me about yourself" survey which barely disguised its real purpose: determining just how technologically illiterate we are. I'm worried my teacher is going to visit here and see that I STILL haven't got rid of that annoying pink line that has driven all my Firefox users away.
Prediction: I will never get rid of the annoying pink line. Maybe I LIKE IT that way.
Comment on other people's blogs.
I am really bad at this, which is not good, because it's one way (probably the best way) to get more readers. But either 400 people have said the same thing, better and earlier, that I want to say; or I'd rather just email, in which case no one else gets to see your URL. On one hand, pimping your own blog is unseemly, on the other, how else are other people going to know about it? On the the third hand, do I want more people to know about it? Hmmm.
Convince those certain friends of mine that the Internet is a glorious invention, to be used for good, and that 'blog' is not a dirty word.
Seriously. What is wrong with these people?!

hey, i thought i showed you what the deal was with the pink line?
also, pot roasts are pretty easy to make, really hard to perfect in my experience. the last one i made was super soggy though, basically to the point of no longer being a roast. didn't bother me none though!

I no longer see the pink line, and I am a devoted Firefox user. Perhaps one of your resolutions has already taken care of itself.
And I heartily agree with Lee: pot roasts are easy but very tricky to perfect. Mine always turn out dry. Ick.
Another resolution should be to visit your Fabulous Friend in The City! ;)

HEY IT'S GONE!!! It's like the Ghost of New Year Resolutions is looking out for me...

i think pot roast stew is waaay better than dry roast anyhow. i basically took a big pot and put in some meat and wine and water and potatoes and carrots and pearl onions - basically all sorts of good stuff, put the lid on, and then put it in at like 350 for i dunno, four or five hours. when i got home i was more than pleasantly surprised.
my idea was kind of a variation on this greek dish: rabbit stifado.

Today I'm making my first pot roast. Actually, it's in the crockpot, waiting for me to come home and eat it. Here's hoping I didn't ruin an $11 cut of meat!
Also, you comment on my blog all the time! (which, thanks for that, by the way!) so I don't know why that's a new years' resolution, but anyway...
